AS MANY MIAD STUDENTS AS POSSIBLE

Interview Summary: "Miley, what's good?"  For my interview project, I focused on the topic of cultural appropriation. I scoured the five floors of the MIAD 252 Residence Hall, knocking on every other door, inquiring students, "What do you think of Miley Cyrus?" and "What does cultural appropriation mean to you?". Over twelve minutes worth of opinions were collected among the student body. The "Miley Cyrus" round of questions provoked flashbacks to the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, where she and Nicki Minaj feuded on live television. The following question, "What does cultural appropriation mean to you?" sparked a spectrum of responses from, "I don't know what that means" to well elaborated definitions and personal examples of what cultural appropriation meant to the interviewee. These interviews reveal the raw truths of what students think of our contemporary pop culture.
